Spring!
Gung Hay Fat Choy! Prosperity in the new year.
This week marked the first week of The Year of the Dragon in Chinese homes. We had a great time studying the Chinese culture. We have so many wonderful things to use and enjoy that were invented in China. Some of the art we created celebrated those inventions. We hope you got a chance to see our Chinese printing and water color paintings in the hallway! Plum blossoms are used to decorate homes for the holidays. Many paintings are of fish because it is the main food of the Chinese diet aside from rice. We painted dragon fans and made dragon puppets for our parade. Langston helped Mrs. Bobo paint large coffee filters red and black to make our Chinese hats. The Chinese dolls we made are soooo cute! They are dressed in traditional clothes to celebrate the new year. We looked at pictures of Chinese instruments and played drums and cymbols and triangles to Far East music. Fiday was our parade and Mrs. Bobo led us around the school to wish everyone a Gung Hay Fat Choy! She showed us samples of Chinese food and the bamboo steamer and wok they cook in. We tasted rice crackers and chicken nuggets cooked in the wok. Delicious. We all have a Chinese goody bag to take home with reminders of our week "in China"
